Education
Education has been massively important to Emyn throughout his career starting with his hair school journey, where he first noticed considerable gaps in the industry. This led him to nurture a desire to combat barriers that existed in traditional hair spaces, specializing in Natural Texture, Gender Affirming Hair Care and Sensory Friendly hair appointments. He credits one of his first mentors and friends in the industry, Ali Pike, for the encouragement and guidance, both of which remain strong in this chapter of his career and led to the creation of their social enterprise, TransPort NL.
Written by Emyn Hayden, researched in collaboration with Ali Pike & Gina Rose, formatted with help from Austin Noel.
Emyn currently offers this class to salons / barbershop in a program that combines an in-person walk through of the course and a demonstration with a model. Afterwards, an optional look and learn where he invites his students to bring in their own models and style their naturally textured hair, from cleanse to dry. Emyn stays present to help troubleshoot challenges, answer questions and guide in a hands on way.
This class will prepare stylists to confidently style naturally textured clients, from waves to coils. It will additionally prepare how to responsibly choose the right product for your client, removing guess work and applying science to ensure successful sets. Materials are always provided.
