Who is he?

Emyn Hayden is a multi-disciplined artist, professionally trained and self taught. Creative expression has been essential to his personal growth and community connection, his rich background in dry hair sculpting, advocacy, literary and performing arts being the tools he leans on to build safer spaces.

He was pulled to hairstyling by a simple desire to be creative in his every day life - however - his early experiences behind the chair forced him to notice gaps in the industry, culminating in his passion for creating accessibility. His specialities include Natural Texture, Sensory Friendly and Gender Affirming Hair Care.

Emyn has been fortunate enough to work under the mentorship of industry leaders and change makers like Ali Pike. The duo have participated and organized 40+ community events, performed over 200 gender affirming hair cuts and recently built a social enterprise that encapsulates their dream and mission, TransPort NL.

Emyn’s dedication and exploration of various artistic mediums has deepened his understanding of how invaluable self-expression truly is, the importance of safe spaces, and the transformative power of community — values that inform every aspect of his work. Storytelling lies at the core of his artistic identity.

He takes immense pride in his ability to listen attentively and ask purposeful questions, creating authentic connections with those around him and creating safer spaces for others to see themselves authentically. It’s the guideline he works within that combines purposeful styling and meeting people where they are. This ethos of care and empathy shapes his work, seeking to uplift marginalized voices, foster opportunities for education, and engage diverse communities in accessible self care.

Emyn’s mission as an artist can be firmly stated as his commitment to telling stories that authentically reflect the lives of those he cherishes, celebrating them with authenticity and admiration.

Hair Care Lottery

Everyone deserves to feel seen, cared for, and confident. We recognize that professional hair care can often be a luxury that is out of reach due to systemic barriers and financial constraints.

To help bridge that gap, I am hosting a monthly Hair Care Lottery starting in May. Once a month, I will draw one winner from our community who has experienced a barrier in receiving adequate care. Specifically for 2SLGBTQIA+, BIPOC, low-income individuals and other marginalized groups to receive a complimentary professional cut and cleanse.

  • Enter yourself or nominate someone deserving on the booking page.

  • Drawn the first of every month.

  • Open to marginalized and disenfranchised folks in our community who could benefit from a dedicated moment of self-care.

  • Want to sponsor an additional spot? Help support the Pay-It-Forward fund by visiting the booking page.
